On July 8, 2025, the AIADMK’s “Makkalai Kaappom, Thamizhagathai Meetpom” campaign, led by General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami (EPS), continued to gain momentum in Coimbatore, a key battleground for the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. Day two saw EPS intensifying his outreach, reinforcing his leadership, and strengthening the AIADMK-BJP alliance. Here’s a look at yesterday’s highlights.
Engaging Voters in Coimbatore
EPS kicked off the day by meeting morning walkers at Coimbatore’s Race Course trail, connecting directly with locals in a relaxed setting. Speaking to ANI, he noted the “overwhelming response” from people frustrated with the DMK’s governance, particularly on law and order issues. Later, EPS addressed a lively gathering in Vadavalli, urging supporters to back NDA allies, including the BJP, in nearby constituencies. His roadshows across Coimbatore’s urban and rural pockets drew large crowds, with supporters chanting for the “Two Leaves” symbol, signaling strong grassroots enthusiasm.
EPS Targets DMK’s Failures
As AIADMK’s Chief Ministerial candidate, EPS sharpened his attack on the DMK, accusing it of shielding corrupt leaders like Senthil Balaji, whom he mockingly called “Ten Rupee Balaji” due to alleged involvement in the TASMAC scam. In Vadavalli, EPS criticized the DMK’s dynastic politics, contrasting it with his own rise from humble beginnings. He highlighted the AIADMK’s commitment to farmers, promising to expand the Athikadavu-Avinashi irrigation project, a key initiative from his 2017–2021 tenure as Chief Minister. EPS’s fiery speeches underscored his vision to “reclaim Tamil Nadu” from DMK’s “anti-people” rule.
AIADMK-BJP Alliance in Focus
EPS defended the alliance, pointing out DMK’s hypocrisy in criticizing it while having allied with BJP in 1999 and 2001. He reiterated that AIADMK will lead the NDA without sharing power, aiming for a landslide victory in 2026. This strategic partnership is pivotal as AIADMK seeks to counter DMK’s dominance with a combined vote share.
Building Momentum
Day two solidified EPS’s campaign as a people-centric movement, blending grassroots outreach with sharp political messaging. As the tour progresses across eight districts, AIADMK’s focus on local issues like rising prices and stalled projects could resonate widely. Will EPS’s momentum challenge the DMK in 2026?
