On July 19, 2025, Edappadi K. Palaniswami (EPS), the AIADMK General Secretary, delivered a rousing speech in Nannilam, galvanizing supporters for the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. The event, part of the Makkalai Kaappom, Thamizhagathai Meetpom (Protect the People, Restore Tamil Nadu) campaign, attracted thousands, reflecting strong grassroots support. EPS showcased the AIADMK’s legacy, criticized the DMK government, and shared his roadmap for Tamil Nadu’s revival.
Launched on July 7 in Coimbatore, EPS’s campaign has covered eight districts, with Nannilam marking a pivotal moment. X posts noted the “huge turnout” as evidence of growing support in the Delta region. The campaign’s next phase begins July 24 in Gandharvakottai, targeting eight more districts by August 8.
EPS highlighted the AIADMK’s past contributions, particularly from his 2017–2021 tenure as Chief Minister. He cited financial aid for five lakh elderly citizens, two agricultural loan waivers in one term, and improved healthcare infrastructure. These successes were presented as proof of AIADMK’s commitment to public welfare, in stark contrast to the DMK’s alleged mismanagement.
In his Nannilam address, EPS lambasted the DMK for rising crime rates, soaring taxes, and neglecting public safety. He accused Chief Minister M.K. Stalin of failing to deliver on 2021 promises, proclaiming, “We aim to oust this ineffective regime.” EPS invited allied parties to collaborate with the AIADMK to defeat the DMK in 2026, emphasizing unity to rebuild Tamil Nadu’s prosperity.
EPS acknowledged the AIADMK’s alliance with the BJP, with Union Home Minister Amit Shah endorsing his leadership in the NDA. However, he stressed the AIADMK’s goal of securing a standalone victory in 2026. On actor Vijay’s Tamizhaga Vettri Kazhagam, EPS avoided firm commitments, prioritizing efforts to strengthen AIADMK’s core support base.
Drawing inspiration from MGR and Jayalalithaa’s resilience, EPS expressed confidence in AIADMK’s return to power. His focus on tackling issues like the drug crisis and economic relief resonates with voters. As the campaign advances, EPS’s emphasis on responsive governance positions AIADMK as a formidable rival to the DMK’s alliance.
